Bands only exist to justify corporate structure. The band is the structural framework for running the business and it defines the hierarchy, compensation and role classification. In terms of actual work performed and career progression, it’s more of a guideline than a hard boundary.<\/p>\n

Thats why every hiring manager wants someone who goes ‘the extra mile’. That extra mile IS the blurring of the band. The essence of leading without the title. Not sure a business would thrive if everyone would only play in the box penciled out by the band, at least in tech.<\/p>\n

Ask anyone, and I’m pretty sure most will say that they are either doing more than what their band describes, or at some point in their career they made a decision that was outside the framework, just to move the needle.<\/p>\n

What AI does is, it questions the existence of that framework. It doesn’t blur the bands, it removes the existing mask. Whether we do it consciously or not, many of us venture outside that box in one way or another to solve the work related challenges we’re dealing with.<\/p>\n
